MedDICE

or… Dice with Death

So, you have been doing medical roleplay for a while now and want a way to spice up that roleplay a little? Or you have a hard time deciding on what injuries you may or may not have?
Look no further! We have the solution for you! Medical Dice!

Also, you can give yourself bonuses or negatives depending on the situation; you could give a -1 or -2, for instance, for being treated in the wilderness if you have a fairly serious wound, or you could have a bonus number for being treated inside of a doctor’s office or under canvas. If you know your doctor is a seasoned medical veteran you can also be nice and give them some bonuses to add to your roll.

Note: Please please kind to your medical professionals, failing basic sutures all the time is both frustrating and not likely to happen. So, take into account that too many bad dice rolls will just end up frustrating your medical person!

Injury Type: Fall
Causes:
- Knocked Down - Fall from a height

Outcomes:

20 - 15 --- Minor
- Minor bruising, scrapes and cuts
- No real treatment needed other than cleaning up and maybe ointment for bruising

14 - 6 --- Medium
- Could have heavier bruising, deeper cuts, potentially bruising on the bones
- Nothing broken, but is gonna be sore for some time
- Depending on how deep any cuts are, might need sutures

5 - 1 --- Critical
- Heavy bruising, deep cuts, potential for broken bones
- Will need sutures, perhaps a cast to help set broken bones
- Will need some time to recover

Injury Type:Gunshot Wound (GSW)
Causes:
- Being Shot

Outcomes:

20 - 15 --- Minor
- Its just a graze!
- Nothing too serious, just a little bruising and a near-miss causing a graze.
- Just needs picking up, brushing off, and sending on his way! (see minor injuries from a fall)

14 - 6 --- Medium
- It is either a through-n-through (bullet passed through the body, one entree and one exit wound), or is still lodged in the wound.
- Both types will cause muscle damage and thus need repair via suturing.
- Both types will require cleaning and the entree/exit wounds suturting closed.
- TNT is more likely to cause internal damage (see critical, below) as it passes through more of the body on it's way out.

- A lodged bullet will need removing; will cause tissue bleeding either way.
- Is gonna take a little time to heal, and light usage.

5 - 1 --- Critical
- The bullet caused internal damage of either a severed artery (internal bleeding) or has caused damage to an organ.
- Bullet may have shattered, or otherwise fragmanted, which could cause other areas of minor-critial damage within the area.
- Will likely require bed-rest to heal.

Injury Type: Lacerations (cuts)
Causes:
- Knife Wound - Animal Attack (claws, bites)

Outcomes:

20 - 15 --- Minor
- Shallow lacerations (cuts) with no other major internal damage.
- Will likely bleed a little, but wouldn't be life-threatening.
- Will need cleaning, will not need sutures.
- Will not have any issues using the affacted area whilst healing.

14 - 6 --- Medium
- Deeper lacerations that have caused muscle damage.
- Muscle tissue will require being sutured back together.
- Might have a little trouble using affected area whilst healing, but nothing that would take long to sort itself out.

5 - 1 --- Critical
- Deep lacerations have have damaged both muscle tissue and has caused further internal damage.
- Internal damage would be chipped bone material, damaged or severed arteries, damaged organs.
- Very likely to have internal bleeding of some kind that would require immediete attention.
- Would have a much longer heal time and would be likely to require bed-rest.
